Atmosphere is a hip-hop group from Minneapolis that centers around rapper Slug (aka Sean Daley). The son of a black father and a white mother who divorced when he was a teenager, Slug became entranced with hip-hop, graffiti, and breakdancing, and formed the Rhyme Sayers Collective with two high school friends — Siddiq Ali (Stress) and Derek Turner (Spawn). After some early gigs as Urban Atmosphere, where Slug DJed behind Spawn’s rhyming, the pair hooked up with producer Ant (Anthony Davis), as well as like-minded locals such as MC Musab, Mr. Gene Poole, and the Abstract Pack, forming an underground hip-hop clique dedicated to freestyling, clever and complex lyrics, and anti-gangsta positivity. In 1998, Atmosphere released its debut album, Overcast!, which quickly became regarded as an underground hip-hop classic thanks to Slug’s deeply personal, poetic musings, as well as Ant’s bare-bones — but inventive — production. The next Atmosphere album was titled Sad Clown Bad Dub II, a 2000 set originally sold while the group was on tour. (Now out of print, it’s a highly sought-after collector’s item). A year later, the group released Lucy Ford: The Atmosphere EP’s, a collection of three EPs built around the theme of Slug’s complicated relationship with his ex-girlfriend, the lost love of his life. The group has toured consistently, both at home and overseas; while Ant usually doesn’t accompany the group on the road, Mr. Dibbs of the group 1200 Hobos often joins in behind the turntables and Slug is usually assisted on the mic by young rappers like the teenaged Eyedea. In June 2002, the group — down to the duo of Slug and Ant — unleashed God Loves Ugly, an 18-track effort that returned to previous themes (”F*@k You Lucy”), but also contained the group’s most pop-friendly single to date, “Modern Man’s Hustle.” By this time indie rap superstars, Atmosphere returned with their fourth album, Seven’s Travels, in 2003, followed two years later by You Can’t Imagine How Much Fun We’re Having. ~ Dan LeRoy, All Music Guide
Members:
Slug (Sean Daley) Slug was a member of a loose group known as The Rhymesayers Collective prior to the formation of Atmosphere. Its other members were Stress (Siddiq Ali) and Spawn (Derek Turner). Slug DJed behind the scenes and let Stress and Spawn handle lyrics. Later calling themselves Urban Atmosphere and garnering some underground notoriety, the group eventually formed a strong relationship with Ant (Anthony Davis) and began collaborating on music. Along with MC Musab (then Beyond), rapper Mr. Gene Poole, and the Abstract Pack they formed the mid-Nineties crew Headshots, with Slug appearing on the underground tape series HeadShots (1-7) (see Discography below). Every HeadShots volume allowed a member of the clique to showcase their talent, and HeadShots Vol. Seven was Slug’s tour de force.
Ant (Anthony Davis) Ant produced his first CD,Comparison, for Musab (formerly known as Beyond). He has contributed to every Atmosphere album and has also produced albums for several members of the Rhymesayers Entertainment label. The only Atmosphere album featuring guest producers, including Jel and Moodswing 9, was Lucy Ford: The Atmosphere EPs. More recently, Ant released a two-part mixtape series titled Melodies and Memories featuring remixes of songs made in the late ’70s and throughout the ’80s.

Deep Purple – In Rock (1970) Classic Rock | EAC Rip | WV+CUE+LOG+Covers | 299MB Audio Fidelity / AFZ 051 24K Gold
The Deep Purple In Rock album always sounded to me like it was recorded in a carpeted band practice room somewhere (which I guess it sort of was, heh) with the engineer turning everything up to 11. It’s great to listen to from the original tapes for once. Every other version I’ve ever heard sounds like someone tried to fix the sound using limiting and EQ (which is totally the wrong approach) rather than just accept it for what it is. Long version of the first song is on there, never fear. Original tapes from De Lane Lea Studios via Abbey Road vault. These Gold discs are being manufactured right now.

In 1970 heavy metal was just beginning and it was Deep Purple that combined the heaviness and the speed to form what we now know as heavy metal. “In Rock” is one of those seminal albums. Deep Purple’s fourth studio album, and the first with the classic Mk II lineup was their breakthrough album. Heavy guitar riffs from Ritchie Blackmore and heavily fuzzed organ from Jon Lord were now the order of the day. The opening track, the fully restored, un-edited, complete, full-length 5:55 version of “Speed King” shows no mercy as it instantly blasts out of the speakers with a raw, unbridled hard rock sound. Also included is the 10-minute epic and all-time concert favorite, “Child in Time”
Tracklist:
1. Speed King (long version) 2. Bloodsucker 3. Child in Time 4. Flight of the Rat 5. Into the Fire 6. Living Wreck 7. Hard Lovin’ Man
Anyone familiar with this album knows it is a sonic assault. Anything other than a minimalist approach to remastering it would result in a over the top compressed mess. Steve Hoffman did a great job in this remaster. Played on an HDCD player, the album is a pleasure to listen to and not too harsh. Hoffman has missed the mark on other albums he remastered but not on this one. Get it while you can.

Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas OST
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is a 1998 film adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson’s 1971 novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream. The film, directed by Terry Gilliam, stars Johnny Depp as Raoul Duke and Benicio del Toro as Dr. Gonzo. Released on May 22, 1998 and earned about $10.6 million at U.S. box office. It has since become a cult classic.
The soundtrack contains songs used in the film with clips of the movie before each song. So considering this each song starts about 30 seconds later than it would normally. The soundtrack contains the music of that time with one exception being the Dead Kennedys rendition of “Viva Las Vegas”. The Rolling Stones song “Jumping Jack Flash” is heard at the conclusion of the film as Thompson drives out of Las Vegas.
Gilliam could not pay $300,000 (half of the soundtrack budget) for the rights to “Sympathy for the Devil” by the Rolling Stones, which plays a prominent role in the book.
